At 6 a.m., the pull-up bars near Charles Clore Park are already busy. Joggers make way for early risers stretching beside chest presses and parallel bars, setting the pace for another sun-drenched Tel Aviv morning. These scenes have become more common this summer, as city residents turn to free outdoor gyms and fitness circuits to stay active without the cost or constraints of indoor studios.
The rapid rise in temperature—Tel Aviv set a 20-year high for June, with daytime highs regularly topping 34°C—has driven a shift in workout habits. After last month's 9% spike in gym membership cancellations (according to Tel Aviv Sportec data), more people are opting for parkside fitness stations offering fresh air, sea breezes, and zero entry fees. The municipality has doubled down on upgrading these spots in the face of record attendance, with new facilities opening in both central and southern neighbourhoods.
Tel Aviv’s beachside promenade is home to several standout outdoor gyms. Gordon Beach’s circuit stretches from the iconic outdoor gym near Frishman Street all the way to the soft-surface pull-up bars beside Atarim Square. These facilities, maintained by the City of Tel Aviv-Yafo’s Department of Sport and Recreation, offer ellipticals, chest presses, parallel bars, rowing machines, and monkey bars. A morning circuit here puts you shoulder to shoulder with elite triathletes, students from the neighboring Interdisciplinary Center, and retirees alike.
For those looking further afield, Park HaYarkon (Ganei Yehoshua) delivers a sprawling, tree-shaded fitness hub near the Sportek North entrance (Rokach Blvd and Ibn Gabirol intersection). This site boasts a 400-meter running track circling more than a dozen apparatuses, including leg presses and assisted dip stations. During July, over 470 people use the fitness circuit daily, municipal counters show, with peak crowds just after sunrise and around sunset.
On the southern side of town, Levinsky Park’s revitalised circuit near Hagdud Haivri Street is thriving thanks to a partnership with the nonprofit Tel Aviv Community Fitness. Weekly bootcamps are advertised on Telegram groups, with turnout regularly exceeding 50. Mats, resistance bands, and kettlebells are available for free communal use from a locked bin, code supplied upon request through the city’s Rabitta app.
The Tel Aviv Municipality now operates 37 outdoor gym locations citywide—a 30% increase since 2020. The Sports and Recreation Department estimates more than 12,000 unique users accessed these sites in May 2026 alone, with the highest usage recorded at Gordon Beach and Park HaYarkon.
Several key upgrades have been completed this year. In Neve Tzedek’s Shlush Park, for example, a new rubberised surface was installed by the city in March and two hydraulic rowing machines were added. Both improvements were partly funded by the Moetza neighborhood council, which contributed ₪130,000 from its health initiatives budget. Moreover, a recent city survey found that 65% of gym users reported improved mood and lower stress after switching to outdoor exercise sessions.
Tel Aviv’s focus on accessibility means these facilities are free for all and open 24/7, with instructions in Hebrew, English, and Russian posted at each station. Free introductory workouts are held every Friday morning at Park HaYarkon and at Charles Clore by local fitness instructors, no sign-up required.
For locals seeking variety, a self-guided circuit between Charles Clore, Neve Tzedek, and Gordon Beach provides a mix of scenery and equipment—with shaded benches and drinking fountains to break up the workout. As the city’s summer heat keeps climbing, outdoor gyms are only gaining popularity. Interested residents can find a full map of facilities through the city’s recreational portal (tel-aviv.gov.il/fitnessparks) and start a new fitness routine without opening their wallet.
